Hi again long lost friends!
So today’s post is gunna be a super awesome round-up of protein-rific recipes. These are all of the little places where I’ve been sneaking Sun Warrior into everyday meals/snacks in order to slightly up my protein, a la the healthy high protein experiment. Now take these suggestions with a grain of salt (no pun intended
) as these meals/snacks are really more geared toward FUNCTION as opposed to TASTE, because anywhere you add in Sun Warrior you are of course going to get a slightly rice-y powder-y taste. But I think these all taste pretty darn yummers even keeping this is mind! To adjust for your own taste preferences, you could always do less Sun Warrior and more sweetener/seasonings. Also, I really rarely measure in the first place, so I would def be sure to check these to suit your tastes! But for anyone out there looking for ideas/suggestions on sneaking more high-quality vegan protein into your diet, I hope you can find these helpful! Also for reference, I always buy my Sun Warrior here, just because I enjoy their flat rate shipping (that gets to me within a day!) and often am ordering a few things at once. I’m sure any form of protein powder (hemp, pea, whey… whatever floats your boat!) would work in these concoctions also, so experiment with whatever you have on hand!
Also, please excuse the fact that most of these photos are taken from my office cubicle with my iPhone camera and are therefore not very appetizing looking, blurry, and most are in the exact same round tupperware container. I know, it’s just so beautiful you want to run and make these recipes this instant cuz you are drooling (slash probably barfing a little). HOWEVER, as UN-visually appealing as these are, I think the fact that most of these were made in their entirety from my cubicle (which is by no stretch of the imagination a kitchen of any kind) speaks volumes as to how easy and transportable they are! How about that for a silver lining. So any other protein-seeking cubicle-dwelling babes oughtta stop the hatin’ and take note!
Yogurt: I added 1/2 scoop vanilla Sun Warrior to one container Oh So Delicious Mango Coconut Yogurt. I topped it off with some brown rice puffs for a little crunchy crunch (not pictured). I swear this does not taste like the barf it looks like!
Cereal: I add 1/2 – 1 scoop Vanilla Sun Warrior and one packet stevia to 1 cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk, then add to my regular cereal of the day. In this photo, I was enjoying my protein milk with Kashi Go Lean and blueberries. Nommers.
Oatmeal: First I cook 1/4 cup oats (or a new fave, Kamut Flakes, which are actually what is pictured) in water, then add 1/2 scoop Vanilla Sun Warrior, packet stevia, sprinkles of cinnamon and salt, and some Almond Milk if needed to get to desired texture. Also, adding a teaspoon of Cocoa Powder makes for delicious “chocolate oats”! Then whatever my topping cravings are that day: goji berries, cacao nibs, raisins, apricots, etc etc etc.
Pancakes: I do the Fitnessista Protein Pancakes, but with only 1 scoop Vanilla Sun Warrior and 2 tablespoons coconut flour instead of GF flour.
Crepes/Crepe-dillas: Inspired by Fitnessista Crepes, but with 1/2 scoop Natural Sun Warrior plus 2 tablespoons Flax Meal in place of the flour.
French Toast: Sounds weird, but this REALLY works, and you really can’t taste the powder! Basically just blend about 1/2 scoop Sun Warrior per two slices french toast into your regular french toast batter (mine is 1 egg plus 1 egg white, 1/4 cup almond milk, stevia, cinnamon). You might want to actually use a blender, otherwise its hard to get the powder and egg to thoroughly combine. But then you just dip in your toast and cook as usual! Pretty awesome. In this picture I had smothered them with jam so you can’t even really tell that this toast is “french”, but it is, I promise.
Ice Cream: I never get a picture of this cuz I gobble it too fast! But I follow HEAB’s Famous Protein Ice Cream
Peanut Butter Protein Spread: This one is kind of odd, but I do 2 tablespoons Powdered PB2 plus 1 tablespoon Vanilla Sun Warrior, plus about 2 tablespoons water, plus some salt, stevia, and cinnamon, and it makes a rather interesting bagel topping, or apple spread! This was an apple from the Union Square Greenmarket that, I kid you not, was practically the size of my head. And super delish.
Granola: A la my Protein Power! Granola or my more recent Island Granola
Smoothies: Pretty obvious choice here… about 1 scoop per smoothie, with Almond Milk and various frozen berries. Mmm.
Recovery Shake: Sometimes after the gym, I just shake up 1 scoop Sun Warrior plus 1 teaspoon cocoa powder with 1.5 cups almond milk and a packet stevia, pinches each of salt and cinnamon, with ice in one of my hardcore shaker cups (I feel like a legit muscle head when I whip out this bad boy). It’s quick and easy and I hear it’s good to have liquid protein after the gym? I don’t know honestly. But it tastes yummers, like choc milk.
And most recently… some new actual COOKING creations (aka, not made in my cubicle)…
a batch of Veggie Burgers! Yes, I put Sun Warrior into a Veggie Burger. They are really awesome, but the recipe is not perfect yet. I’m having trouble getting them to bind together to my liking, they kinda crumble apart really easily. But besides that, still delish. If I ever perfect this recipe I will certainly share! This is a pic of them uncooked right after I made ‘em, on their way into the freezer.
and some Energy Cookies! I was inspired by Ange’s Raw Energy Cookie Bites and how they were poppin’ with seeds and other deliciosity, but instead of making a raw version decided to go with a Sun Warrior laced cooked version. Typical. But they were AWESOME! A few of these have accompanied me to my cubicle on lonely afternoons…
Oh Sun Warrior, how I love thee!
Woohoo! This seems like a lot of protein powder doesn’t it? I swear I really don’t make all these things that often, but this post is just a compilation of every idea I’ve ever had on sneaking it in. I think I probably have about a scoop of Sun Warrior a day in whichever of these various forms I’m craving. I do think the additional protein has helped me feel more satisfied instead of the various carby snacks I used to have. Basically I’ve been swapping in these Sun Warrior sneaky snacks in replacement of Pirate’s Booty, rice cakes, dried fruit and nut mixes, veggie chips, etc. Not that I don’t still love those things and continue to enjoy them from time to time, but I’m throwin’ in a little something different every now and then. And still of course eating plenty of greenery! So far so good, so we’ll see how things continue!
That’s all for now!
xoxo

Everything looks delicious, and I don’t thing your protein yogurt looked like barf at all.
I know I’d love it. The crepes look really good, and I am digging the french toast. Great idea, and I never would have thought to add Sun Warrior to a savory dish like veggie burgers. I like the way you think!
I’m also honored that the protein ice-cream gets eaten before you have time to snap a photo…always a sign of a successful recipe.
I’m glad I inspired you! And yes, I definitely always inhale your ice cream in about one slurp – I really need to remember to take a pic next time! Also, for veggie burgers, I recommend using the “Natural” flavor of Sun Warrior if you have it – it blends right in with the veggies… if you ever happen to try it out, let me know how it goes!
[...] post I figured I’d do a very Monday appropriate work related posts. You may recall that last post I shared with you some lovely little protein-packed snackies, most of which were made and enjoyed [...]
[...] I was crossing my fingers the whole time I was making these, as the main “flour” ingredient is my beloved Sun Warrior Vanilla Brown Rice Protein Powder. And, the main sweetener is Stevia Cup for Cup, which I hadn’t used to bake yet. So I was NERVOUS, but I knew if there was any other delightful ingredient that could turn protein + stevia into deliciousity, it was pumpkin. I don’t know how pumpkin is so magical, but it really completely (to me, anyway) masked any “protein”-y taste in these, which can be a challenge with protein baked goods (I would know…). [...]
